Measles Update: No New Local Cases, Vigilance Ongoing

Current Update

• We are pleased to report no new confirmed cases of measles in our region.

• However, the new measles case reported in Nelson over the weekend had no known links to other cases, suggesting undetected community transmission. Therefore, we need to continue a proactive approach to protect our whānau from measles

• The national public health approach remains a decisive 'stamp it out' strategy.

Immunisation efforts & vigilance

Thank you to everyone for your significant contribution to the recent good uptake of the MMR vaccine and other scheduled vaccines across the board. Your efforts are vital in protecting our communities.

We encourage all practices to continue a high level of vigilance, particularly with any whānau presenting with symptoms. Early recognition and prompt public health notification remain essential.

Priority MMR Recall Focus

Please continue to proactively recall those who are due and overdue for MMR vaccination. Priority should be given to patients with no recorded doses first, and then those with only one recorded dose (incomplete immunity).

The table below is designed to help guide prioritisation of recall:

You can also find information supporting MMR prioritisation by age group on page two of the attached document.

Measles Awareness Week Follow-up

Last week was Measles Awareness Week. We would appreciate it if you could email Marianne, Primary Care Operations Lead at marianneh@nhc.maori.nz with details on whether your clinic held any dedicated MMR immunisation stand-up clinics or outreach sessions.

MMR vaccine eligibility

Please see the attached information sheet regarding funded MMR vaccines for people who are not normally eligible for funded healthcare.

A key update: All Recognised Seasonal Employees (RSE) workers can now access funded MMR vaccination as part of this outbreak response.

The attached document outlines the details, including:

• How to claim for vaccinations administered to this group.

• Who to contact if you have any questions.

• Which groups are not currently eligible for funded MMR vaccination.
